Reconsider using alcohol. Your life
and others depend on it. My Mission I want to do my part in making our community a better, healthier place to live. I have been affected by the use of alcohol like most people I know. I have a desire to speak on the behalf of the young children who are being abused by alcoholic parents, wives that are being abused by alcoholic husbands, mothers who loose their children in an alcohol related auto accident, sons who don't have a stable healthy father to guide them, teenagers who loose their direction in life because of the effects of alcohol use. Someone has to stand up for these suffering people, you could be the next person to suffer a lose because of this deadly disease. My desire is to see no sales or use of alcohol in our county or anywhere for that matter. I think a very selfish response to this issue is to say that it is each individuals problem. Anyone who reads the statistics can not deny that this is a real problem. alcohol is a drug — the most commonly used and widely abused psychoactive drug in the world. Currently, approximately 14 million Americans, 1 in every 13 adults, abuse alcohol or are alcoholic. More than 100,000 U.S. deaths are caused by excessive alcohol consumption each year. Direct and indirect causes of death include drunk driving, cirrhosis of the liver, falls, cancer, and stroke. 65% of youth surveyed said that they got the alcohol they drink from
family and friends. Nearly 14 million Americans meet diagnostic criteria for alcohol use disorders. Youth who drink alcohol are 50 times more likely to use cocaine than those who never drink alcohol. Traffic crashes are the greatest single cause of death for persons aged 6–33. About 45% of these fatalities are in alcohol-related crashes Underage drinking costs the United States more than $58 billion every year — enough to buy every public school student a state-of-the-art computer. Alcohol is the most commonly used drug among young people. Nationally, nearly 40% of admissions to mental hospitals and 50% of arrests are alcohol-related An estimated 6.6 million children under 18 live in households with at least one alcoholic parent. Treatment for alcoholism has been shown to reduce criminal activity up to 80% among chronic offenders, has increased their rate of employment, decreases homelessness and reduces all health care costs. In 2002, U.S. alcoholism statistics reported that 2.6 million binge drinkers were between the ages of 12 and 17. 56% of students in grades 5 through 12 say that alcohol advertising
encourages them to drink. Alcohol is a factor in nearly half of America's murders, suicides and accidental deaths. More than three fourths of female victims of nonfatal, domestic violence reported that their assailant had been drinking or using drugs. About half of state prison inmates and 40% of federal prisoners incarcerated for committing violent crimes report they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of their offense.
